Media Filtration
Activated Carbon Filters are designed for chlorine and organics removal. From simple de-chlorination to critical dissolved organics removal, we offer a variety of activated carbon filters to meet individual application requirements. Dual Media Filters are typically used for turbidity and suspended solids removal. They may also be combined with a chemical feed system to effectively remove both iron and manganese. Multimedia Bed Filters consist of graded layers of media, including a coarse top layer of anthracite to remove the bulk of suspended solids, a finer second layer of sand, and a final layer of fine, dense garnet to polish the water to a high-clarity effluent.
Cartridge and Bag Filtration
Bag Filters are generally used to capture particles that exceed 50 microns in size. These filters can be cleaned or replaced. Cartridge Filters are generally used to capture particles from 0.1 micron to 100 micron in size. Cartridge filters contain more surface area than bag filters, although they can’t be cleaned and will need to be replaced. Their superior ability to capture particles makes them a suitable polishing filter before a process, or pre-filter for reverse osmosis equipment.
Ultrafiltration (UF)
This separation process is used in industry and research for purifying and concentrating macromolecular (103 – 106 Da) solutions. UF is used to treat surface water, ground water, seawater and waste water as either primary treatment or as pretreatment to reverse osmosis (RO) and Nanofiltration (NF). In some cases it replaces conventional pre-treatment. Other applications for UF include cheese manufacturing, process and waster water treatment, laboratory grade manufacturing, filtration of effluent from paper pulp mills and whey protein concentration.
Nanofiltration (NF)
NF systems have pore sizes from 1-10 nanometers, smaller than that used in Ultrafiltration, but slightly larger than used in the reverse osmosis process. They provide 50%-90% salt rejection. Advanced Chemical Systems uses these custom-built systems in a range of applications, including: water softening, maple syrup, flavor and fragrance industries, as well as purification of gas condensates, pesticides, bacteria, viruses and paint pigment removal.
Reverse Osmosis (RO) - See table below
RO is a membrane process wherein the membrane acts as a molecular filter to remove up to 99% of all dissolved minerals, bacteria, particles and organics. The membrane allows pure product water to flow through it, while rejecting the passage of impurities contained in the feed water. To limit the buildup of impurities on the RO membrane, a portion of the feed water containing the rejected impurities is flushed to drain continuously.
